Types of ev charging stations can be divided into three different levels: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Among them, Level 1 is the slowest charging, while Level 3 ev charging station charging time is about 1 hour.
Level 1 EV Charging Station: Wall Plug
A Level 1 electric vehicle charging station is an ordinary wall power socket that provides AC power. When an electric vehicle is charged through a Level 1 electric vehicle charging station, it needs an on-board charger installed in the vehicle to convert AC power to DC power. Adapt to the DC voltage and current required by the power battery.
Because the output power range of Level 1 electric vehicle charging stations is small, usually between 1kW and 7.5kW, it is also called a "single-phase" plug. It takes a long time to charge electric vehicles. Generally, it takes about 20 hours to charge 120 miles. .
This type of electric vehicle charging station is generally installed in residential areas or underground garages to facilitate electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid vehicle users to charge at home.
At present, the vast majority of electric passenger cars are basically equipped with on-board chargers and cable plugs, allowing them to be charged using Level 1 electric vehicle charging stations.
Level 2 EV Charging Station: AC Public EV Charger
Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations also use AC power, which increases charging speed due to its increased output power, and both single-phase and three-phase AC power can be used, which is 5-7 times faster than Level 1 electric vehicle charging stations. times.
When a Level 2 electric vehicle charging station charges an electric vehicle, it also requires an on-board charger to convert the input AC power into DC power suitable for the voltage and current of the power battery.
This type of electric vehicle charging station can also be installed at home, but it is more expensive than a level 1 electric vehicle charging station and depends on whether the local power grid supports the installation.
Level 3 EV Charging Stations: DC Public EV Chargers
Level 3 electric vehicle charging stations, also known as DC fast chargers, can quickly charge electric vehicles. Because their output is DC, they do not need to be converted by an on-board charger and can directly charge the power battery.
Level 3 electric vehicle charging stations can charge an electric vehicle to about 80% in about half an hour. Although it still takes longer to refuel than a traditional vehicle, it is the best choice for charging electric vehicles for long-distance travel.
Due to their large size, this type of electric vehicle charging station is generally installed in public places and used as commercial charging stations, such as parking lots, highway service areas and both sides of the road.
